I bought this mat to use in my beginning yoga class. As soon as my boyfriend saw it and felt how plush it was, he said “That would be great to use as a pad under a sleeping bag when I go camping at the lake”. I reminded him he would need to get one of his own because this is for yoga class. (It’s also too hot to go camping right now.) He was right about the padding being a good thickness to cradle you and I appreciate this during savasana and when doing seated poses without a bolster. It’s long enough to stretch out on, wide enough to feel comfortable when moving from a front-facing pose to a side-facing pose but you can roll it up, put the Velcro straps on it and put it in a closet or under the bed to get it out of the way and it doesn’t take up too much room. The strap between the Velcro ones gives you something to hang onto to carry your mat but you might want something more colorful like a bag to put it in and that gives you someplace to put your socks as well. The surfaces have an anti-slip coating and this is helpful when starting out as a yogini in a sweat-inducing climate like this one. At this point, the stickiness takes some getting used to but, if that’s the case for you too, you can always wear yoga socks. There are lots of cute one out there and you won’t lose any of your stability.I can’t speak to the durability yet because I just started using it but the edges look well made and I don’t see any gaps so I don’t think they will separate. I plan to keep it out of the sun and heat so there shouldn’t be any problem with the material cracking.I got the grey one because Buyco had it in stock, it was going to ship the earliest, and I wouldn’t have to worry about dirt. Then I bought one black block and one fuchsia block and my yoga strap is two tones of Army green so now I’m wondering if I would have preferred a pink or purple mat instead. Or even a black one. Buyco has a good return policy on these and I have until July 4th to change my mind and the mat does come in all those colors. In any case, my indecision over my choice of colors in no way detracts from my opinion of this mat which so far I highly recommend.
This yoga mat has become an essential part of my self-care routine. It’s where I come to recharge, reconnect with myself, and find peace amid life’s chaos.
